The TV shows, movies and books we read all portray love in so many different ways. Sometimes with all the different portrayals of love, its hard to really determine what true love is. Many times, dating relationships are centered around selfish motives. For example, someone might date the starting quarterback in high school because it helps their popularity, or it makes them look good. True love puts its own best interests on the back shelf and is looking out for the needs and interests of the other person. Any relationship should focus on getting to know the other person long before the physical comes into play. Its one of the best ways to make sure your relationship will last, because it is based on something deeper than just the physical. Attraction can fade, but a relationship built on a solid foundation of friendship will be much more likely to succeed. This will set you up for lots of heartache in the future. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong?

Love is Respect El Monte was created as a student-led effort to bring awareness to the effects of teen dating abuse, in connection with Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a national youth-led movement, in February. As a team we feel that it’s important to discuss the topic, which is a mental health issue that’s still taboo in the public eye. Locally, we discovered that in order to have a deep understanding on how to curve the cases of dating abuse among our peers, we needed to define what is teen dating abuse and learn how to recognize the signs of abuse.

Whatever the size of your group, this lesson should be workable. Always ask for volunteers. Most kids get a kick out of acting, especially if they are allowed to be silly. Tell them to be dramatic, which tends to make it funny, as well as pointed. Also, before you begin, write out on separate cards or any piece of paper, the six bible verses.
Hand out the bible verses to different kids to find ahead of time in their bible so that they are ready to read them when prompted by you after each skit. Give actors and readers time to read over their lines so they are comfortable with the material. There are three verses to be read after each skit. Make no further comment after each reading. Taking time to evaluate how we are doing as we lead others This resource will be invaluable for any of us that call ourselves leaders, no matter where we are at in life. Everything rises and falls on leadership. That’s why it’s so important that we take the time to evaluate ourselves occasionally on how we are doing personally as we lead others. Let this be both an encouragement for you in the areas you are doing great and a chance to put the target on the wall for yourself in areas that could use some improvement.

Posted by Paul Kelly The youth group in a small church can really seem like a big family. When students bring boyfriends and girlfriends from other churches, it can be fun. However, when students in the youth group start dating each other, it can be a challenge. When there are only a few kids in the group, how does it affect the group when two of them start dating each other? On the one hand, students in the youth group dating each other is a positive thing.
We encourage students to date believers, and the youth group is the best place for them to meet other Christians. On the other hand, there can be some challenges for the small youth group when group members start dating each other. When students are dating, they may separate themselves from the rest of the group. They may pay less attention to their other friends in the group, leading some students to feel left out or frustrated. When students who have been dating break up, it can create some real discomfort for them.
One of the students may decide not to be involved in the youth group because the other is there. What do you do when kids in the youth group are dating? The relationship may be over before you find out about it.

Youth Group Dating Rules By: Lisa Baker For most teens, dating rules and expectations are an important part of social interactions and development. Any faith-based or community group that seeks to support teens needs to address this issue so central to teenagers’ lives. Most religious youth groups have rules that come from their faith traditions and give their members guidelines on how to date and interact with the opposite gender.
Dating is an important part of social interactions for most teens. Meet Singles in your Area! Christian Youth Groups Different Christian denominations offer different guidelines for youth dating. The most common rule is youth should not have sex outside of marriage, which is based on Biblical passages such as 1 Corinthians Christian youth groups often encourage teens to create their own personal rules and standards for dating, such as staying in public areas and limiting physical contact.
These rules are outlined in the booklet “For the Strength of Youth” These rules state teens should not date until they are at least 16, and then they should begin with group dates and double dates. They should avoid exclusive dating until they are old enough to consider marriage. The LDS church also forbids sex outside of marriage and outlines specific activities that should be avoided because of their potential to lead to sex, such as passionate kissing and spending time one-on-one with a date in a private setting.

Despite theoretical and empirical evidence suggesting that the family environment plays a central role in Latino youth development, relatively little is known about how family processes influence dating violence victimization among Latino adolescents. To address this gap in the literature, we used data from Latino parents and their to year-old adolescents to examine associations between several different family processes, including both parenting practices parent monitoring, parent-adolescent communication and aspects of the family relational climate family cohesion, family conflict, acculturation conflict and psychological, physical, and sexual dating violence victimization.
Consistent with expectations, lower levels of family cohesion and higher levels of family and acculturation conflict were associated with risk for dating violence victimization, although associations varied depending on victimization type. In contrast, neither parental monitoring nor parent-adolescent communication was significantly associated with any type of dating violence victimization. In addition, we found that parent, but not teen, Anglo-American acculturation was associated with higher dating violence victimization risk.
Findings suggest that family-based dating abuse prevention programs for Latino youth should seek to increase family cohesion and decrease family conflict, including acculturation-based conflict.
